New animation going for the punch!

I'm creating a new animation starring this guy up here. Finally got some stuff rolling, so now's a good time to post some early concept art. Going for a really rough, scratchy look this time around.

Snow Shark Log #9 - Short Preview

The animation is almost finished. Just have to make the backgrounds and color the characters, and everything should be good to go. Don't have any screenshots to show, but I do have this video.

Snow Shark Log #8 - The Shark Wobble

*rabble*
Animation is almost finished. Just a few more shots. Other than that, it's going to be a tight schedule the next three weeks doing clean-up. I also finished this quick composite test for my Digital Animation Techniques class. Animated the walk and background on paper, scanned it, colored in Photoshop, then put together in After Effects. Learned how to use hold keyframes. Other than that, what is that green jacket guy up to?

Mystery Filmation Cel/Artwork?

No production log for today, but wanted to post these little thumbnails. Got less than four weeks left to finish my animation. Let's see what happens. Also, my dad found this cel of an old Hansel and Gretel show. Looked online and couldn't find anything about it, unless we're just really bad at Googling stuff up. Wondering if it was a show at all. All we can tell is that there is a Filmation logo on the frame.

Snow Shark Log #7 - Clean Up Ahoy!

Rough animation is nearly completed, but I'll have to get it done by tomorrow for my sound designer and composer. These little deadlines are helping, but it's never enough time. Now that spring break is over, stuff I need to do is popping up left and right. I'm at the point where I have to choose what's most important and handle that stuff first, mainly my film. There's not enough time, but as long as I get this movie and my portfolio done, I'll be happy.

To make sure I don't fall behind, clean up has already started. I'm sticking with the basic brush for most quick or wide shots. I can go over the lines again with a different brush later, and at a much faster pace too. Clean up will take forever, but doing it right at this stage will help with coloring. Another thing I should be doing is putting more detail in the rough animation before I move shots over to photoshop. It actually helps quicken the clean up.

I'll try to keep updating this blog. If not, I'll at least post little screenshots like these.

Snow Shark Log #6 - Blargh!

Blargh!
Here, have a snowballed shark. Spring break's been pretty productive so far. The rough animation on my thesis film is almost complete. Man it feels like it's taking forever. Soon clean up will begin! Actually...it already has!!! Mwa ha ha!...wait...that's not a good thing. I've got more work to do. NOOOOOO!

Anyway, I've also been helping out on a friend's film and got some layouts done. Take a look! Is it just me, or does the guy look like Luke Matheny from God of Love?

Snow Shark Production Log #5 - Trucking Along

Rough animation should be completed by this Sunday or next Tuesday. A lot of the more complicated shots have been finished, and just need to be plopped into the animatic. Then I can lock it down and hand a copy of the film over to my composer. Moving along slowly with things popping up all over the place. I only have a few things for my portfolio put together, and I still need a few more life drawings. Not sure if I can attend a figure drawing session. Will have to do some this weekend if it's not too cold outside.

Overall things are going pretty well. Once the rough animation is out of the way, clean up should be a breeze. It'll take time, but I can now actually spend time on how the backgrounds will look and start bringing in stuff I drawn in my sketchbooks.

More good news! The Simpsons couch gag I helped Bill Plympton with is up on Youtube. It's pretty funny, so you better check it out!
